This week i shot several short videos from the perspective of my fourth grade students. I was curious to see the world from their perspective and gain insight into the environment my classroom creates. It was fun to get my students involved. I feel like the process was inverted a bit though. Rather than using empathy to design my video I used my video to create empathy in me. The stimulus of a simple line. Students surround you. Waiting for your turn. Uncertainty and expectancy. I got a real sense of the stimulus my students are experiencing. That empathy helps me to reflect on my own classroom management. Am i doing enough to assist my students with the sensory and asthetic of school? Are there changes I could make to help my students who struggle with attention? These are questions I'm still answering.
